THE ACORN TREE AND OTHER FOLKTALES


narrator: an old woman lived in a little hut deep in the forest. she was so poor that all that she had to eat was the acorns she gathered each day from the forest floor.
Woman:what was that? Why, its an acorn!
Narrator:the acorn kept growing soon it was a very nice tree
woman: I shall have to cut a hole in the roof
narrator: the tree grew tall and got acorns so the old woman climbed up and up (climbing actions) scene change
woman: I have reached a cloud I think I shall climb onto it
rooster: cock a doodle doo! I am giving you this grinding mill
woman: what grinding mill?
Rooster: this one (moves aside revealing grinding mill) I will come to
woman: okay after all it will make good bread
narrator: so they went down to the hut

narrator: it was already supper time when they were in the hut as the old woman put acorns into the grinding mill the what should have been flour there was a Delicious feast.
Woman: rooster! Come get your food.
Narrator: there was a rich man in the forest.
Rich man: (knocking actions)
woman: why hello do come in and join us for supper
rich man: why thank you I certainly will.
Narrator: soon after the rich man left the old woman took a nap
rich man: I will get that grinding mill (riding away)
narrator: so the rich man snuck into the old womans house and stole the sky blue grinding mill
rooster: (following) cock a doodle do give us back our sky blue grinding mill
rich man: no! Cook throw him in the well!
Cook: yes sir
rooster: little beak little beak drink water (drink water)( following ) cock a doodle do give us back our sky blue grinding mill
rich man: no! Cook! Put him in the fire!

Rooster: little beak little beak pour water
narrator: the rooster reached the rich mans house
where the rich man was having dinner with his friends
rooster: ( standing on rich mans plate ) rich man rich man! You are a thief
(all unused characters out of costumes run away shouting we don't want to be friends with a thief ! )
rooster: now that rich man is gone after his friends he won't be here to protect our sky blue grinding mill
narrator: the rooster went back to the old womans house
rooster: old woman wake up!
The rich man took your grinding mill but he just left so you can take it back
old woman: thank you rooster
I will go get it right now
rooster: I will go with you
narrator: and off they went
and when they got back they had a marvolous supper
The thirsty crow



crow: Caw! Caw! I will drink that nice cool water then I won't be thirsty any more
narrator: the crow tried to take a drink but the water in the jug was too low
crow: Caw! Caw! What will I do I am so very thirsty and I can't reach the water! Aha! How many pebbles will it take to make the water rise high enough? 1 2 3 4 5 …....
hurray! It is high enough caw caw I am happy now. it was good water!
Narrator: clever crow!
